What is a Serape?
It is a type of colorful Mexican blanket that is commonly seen in Mexican restaurants around the world. Anytime you travel to Mexican cities such as Cancun, or Cabo San Lucas, you will see these blankets for sale on the streets. Serapes have been popular in the United States dating back to the 1960′s and the tye-dyed color-infused hippie generation.
Nowadays, these blankets are still popular in many Mexican and southwestern themed homes and businesses. You can get them in a variety of bright colors and in an assortment of sizes. With the increasing popularity of Cinco de Mayo here in the United States, these serape blankets make great decorations. They can be used on tables, couches, and beds. The smaller sizes can also be used as table runners or placemats.
